Pop-up Valentine DIY

I have always loved "Pop-Up Cards", but unfortunately they are so expensive! Use my easy-to-follow directions with photos and templates to create your own "one-of-a-kind" Pop-Up Valentines that come from the heart! This unique craft can easily be adapted to other holidays and events, and can be enjoyed by all ages. Two variations are included in this post. Have fun crafting!!

Materials and Equipment:

Construction paper (9" x 12")
Glue
Scissors
Pencils and markers
Embellishments: Assorted ribbon, fabric scraps, paper scraps, paper doilies, buttons, Art Foam shapes, etc.

Directions:

Fold a piece of construction paper in half lengthwise (hot dog fold). Use the templates below to draw and cut hearts for the Pop-up Valentines.

Single Pop-Up Card

Fold a sheet of construction paper in half crosswise. Matching folds, place the 2-1/4" x 5" heart in the center of the folded construction paper. Draw around the outside edges of the heart, leaving a space about 1 inch long uncut on each side of the heart (See photo below).

See photo below to refold the construction paper. Note that the heart's middle fold is out and side folds are in

Refold and trim the cut edges of the construction paper about 1/4" all the way around.

Do not cut the folded edge!

Fold another sheet of construction paper in half crosswise. Glue the paper with the cut heart inside the other sheet, matching fold lines.

Decorate the outside and inside of the card.

Optional: Add an appropriate verse.

Triple Pop-Up Card

Fold a sheet of construction paper crosswise. See the photo below to draw all 3 hearts on the folded construction paper. Cut on the solid lines, leaving some paper uncut (about 3/4") so that the hearts will be attached to the paper.

See photo below to refold construction paper and hearts.

For large and small hearts, middle fold is out and sides are folded in. For medium heart, middle fold is in and sides are out.

Refold and trim the 3 cut edges of the construction paper about 1/4".
Do not cut the folded edge!

Fold another sheet of construction paper in half crosswise. Glue the paper with the cut heart inside the other sheet, matching fold lines.

Decorate the outside and inside of the card.

Optional: Add an appropriate verse.

Happy Valentine's Day!
