Ironed Toast???

Has this happened to you? You are in a hotel room, hungry, with last night's leftovers in the refrigerator, but who wants to eat cold food? Unfortunately, there's no microwave or toaster in the room! Room Service is available, but very costly. Never fear! Let the iron come to the rescue!!

This was the situation I recently found myself in, but fortunately I had a "Brain-Wave"!! I have always heard that, "Necessity is the Mother of Invention!"

When we ate out at a restaurant the evening before, we asked for a couple of sheets of aluminum foil along with a "take-out box" for the leftovers.

I had brought along some bread, so I was ready to cook the next day!

I set up the ironing board and preheated the iron on high. I laid one slice of bread on the aluminum foil and folded the foil over it, covering both sides. I then ironed one side of the bread, turned it over, and ironed the over side.

Plain bread

The bread is now toast! It was a little flatter than usual, but it tasted great!

It's toast!

Now for the leftover steak. Again, I folded aluminum foil around both sides of the meat. This time I covered the ironing board with a towel in case grease leaked out. As I ironed both sides, the steak sizzled as it heated! It smelled yummy!

My husband said the steak tasted great!

Now, it's time for tea. I have found if you pour water into a coffee maker with the attachment on, the tea tastes like coffee. (Yuk! I am not a coffee drinker!) This time we removed the attachment for the coffee and ran water through the machine once to clean it. Next, I poured water into the machine, put the tea bag in the cup, and turned the machine on. The tea was delicious!

It's Tea Time!
Nancy's Notes: My inspiration for the "ironed toast" was a Memory Flash of my college days. My roommate Jan and I sometimes spread a little butter on 2 slices of bread and put a slice of cheese in between. We then wrapped the sandwich with aluminum foil before ironing both sides. Instant Grilled Cheese!!

Now what can we do with those leftover carrots??

My delicious "ironed" brunch!
